For example, when I meditate my volume goes up. When I concentrate my volume goes down. By meditating, our mind becomes focused on its own thoughts. When we are fully aware of our thoughts during a meditation session, we become aware of who we really are.

Concentration is a mental state in which an individual focuses on one thought, idea, or activity at the exclusion of all others. Meditation is when someone trains attention and awareness much like concentration but to not exclude other thoughts or activities.
In contrast, concentration is focused on controlling our senses & thoughts. Meditation has the sole purpose of getting to know our soul and gaining a better understanding of it. This is important because if we are more in tune with ourselves- these changes can be reflected in the outer world as well.
